Clippers take down Golden State to Cut Series to 3-2
Lawler's Law is in effect tonight! The Clippers beat the Warriors at Oracle. Yes on the road, again. In a rather strange series, the Clippers being down 3-1 (the magic numbers), head to Oakland in a game that was supposed to be a blowout after crushing game 3 and 4 losses. The Clippers were supposed to get blown out in this (like all the other games in this series) but ended up winning once again. This team shows no fear.
In Game 5 the Clippers showed strong signs of fighting early on as they only went down by 4 at the end of the first quarter and controlled the 2nd quarter outscoring Golden State 34-22 led by none other than Lou Williams and surprisingly Patrick Beverley on offense in addition to his great defense. The gameplan for the CLippers was similar to Game 4 as they fell to the Warriors by 8 but Doc Rivers experimented a new lineup as he called in JaMychal Green to start of Ivica Zubac and it seemed to work a bit. This meant that JaMychal would match up with KD and Pat would move to guard Green which worked perfectly.
Let's face it, the Warriors played good in Game 5 but they just got outplayed by LA as the Clippers stopped multiple 4th quarter Warrior runs. Coming into this series many thought a sweep would be coming as the Warriors are a star-studded team that have so many options and the Clippers only have 1 and that was off the bench, but everyone was wrong. The Clippers are a team that will continue to fight and not stop, as we saw in Game 2. Feeling like they should be up 3-2 the Clips will head back to LA hoping to force a game 7.
The Warriors 3 stars still scored at least 22 each but it didn't matter. Yes, Durant did score a playoff career high (45), but JaMychal was playing good defense on him for the most part. Durant was shooting contested 3's that would repeatedly go in. Curry also finished with 24 and Klay with 22. But on the Clipper side, Green scored 15 on 9 shots, Gallo scored 26 on a brutal 22 shots, Bev scored 17 on 13 shots and a game-high 14 rebounds, Montrezl dropped 24 on 14 shots, and Lou Will dropped 33 on 19 shots. Like I said, the Warriors didn't play bad, the Clippers just outplayed them. This shows how much heart this Clipper team has.
If the Clippers fall to Golden State in Game 6, this has obviously been a great season and the Clips will attract big name free agents like Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant to possibly join the club for years to come. Another big key this offseason for the Clippers is resigning JaMychal Green and Patrick Beverley. They along with Garrett Temple and Wilson Chandler are both unrestricted free agents and the Clippers need these 2 back as they've both proven they are key factors of each game. Ivica Zubac and Rodney McGruder are both restricted free agents and I think the Clips would try to match any sensible offer on them. The Clippers have 2 max contract slots to use on big name free agents so the future is obviously very bright for this feisty team.
Crazy Clipper Stats
The Clippers are +22 in points per 100 possessions with JaMychal Green at center in this series.
Pat Bev became the 9th player in NBA postseason history to make at least 5 threes and grab 14 rebounds in a game.
Montrezl Harrell has made 1 more field goal than Russell Westbrook this postseason but on 57 fewer attempts.
Trez and Lou are the only teammates since 1970-71 with 3+ playoff games where each scored at least 20 off the bench.
Golden State hit 15 threes and shot 45% from the field with 8 total turnovers and STILL LOST!
Lou Williams is the 8th player in NBA history with multiple 30+ point games off the bench in a single postseason.
On to Game 6
Some of this anger sparked and enraged the Clippers as Klay Thompson said that they were looking ahead to Houston which the Clips do not want to here. New reports have gotten out that the Rockets will travel to Oakland expecting to play the Warriors for a Game 1 on Sunday which will enrage the Clippers even more for Game 6. Trez, Lou, and Bev have to show out if they want to face their former team in the 2nd round. Also, Gallo is the key to this as LA needs his shots to fall early on and we saw the outcome of his poor performance in Game 4. Game 6. Tomorrow. 7 PM Pt.
